Why You Should Blog

Oh and here’s a picture of Slim Shady wearing a necklace.  We told him if he wore a necklace like this all the babes would think it was his mayoral chains and he believed us.

Over the years I have played around with a few websites and blogs.  It was educational, fun and I enjoyed the interactions I had with others, particularly on one blog I had for a number of years which had a high readership.

I've never blogged as a part or full time job though and usually found time restraints were the main reason I never persevered with some of my older sites and blogs.

Recently however I've become a lot more interested in blogging again and have observed very clear benefits, even if it is just like a private journal (with few or no readers).

Some of these benefits are:

1. A blog is a great place to store your photos - and find them again! It's just a really good platform for photo storage.

2. I can easily find my own recipes again.  I began to notice that time and time again I was coming back to my blog for my own recipes because that was simply the quickest and easiest way to find them again.

3. It makes you grateful. "Well, there's nothing happening in my life. I have nothing to blog or write about".  I've so often thought this and then through the day I have become aware that lots of good and interesting things are always happening.  They may be quite simple - for example last night I podded broad bean seed, but I enjoyed it a lot so I took some photos and thought how good it would be to record this event on my blog.  I find this quite satisfying and when good, sometimes even amazing or wonderful things happen day after day I  realize that despite the many problems I also have a huge number of incredible blessings in my life.  That makes me feel very grateful.

It's also a good way to remember the little things are often really the big things - the pleasure of sharing a meal with family or friends is a privilege not afforded to many, one that should not be taken for granted.  Some people don't have food or homes or family or friends.  I am blessed with all of these and remain very mindful of how precious they are. A blog helps me do this.

4. A blog is a good place to store information. For example I have recorded the new fruit trees that were planted this year and which varieties they were. I can put photographs beside them if I wish.  This creates a handy record.  It could even include information for others in the years to come.

5. You can record history.  I'm always interested in geneaology, family history, local history and so on and a blog is the ideal place to record events, stories, accompanying photos and anything else of relevance.

6. You can easily share with others.  That doesn't mean you have to have a high readership or share every intimate detail - but if family members want to access old family photographs and history or a friend asks for a recipe a blog can be the perfect way for them to access this information.

7. It's a good place to record some of your favourite links.

In short I'm beginning to see that blogging consistently really is very rewarding and worth the time and effort you put in, for yourself and sometimes for others.
